Right to Information Act (RTI), Assessment Study

As part of our advocacy we have been spearheading a campaign on RTI Act in Assam and it has already grown into a wider movement with different stakeholders, wherein a large number of individuals and groups have been trained on the application of the Act.  NEN has imparted trainings to both government officials as well as social activists on the implementation and functioning of the Act. Based on our active engagement on RTI with the local and national groups, NEN was invited to undertake the RTI Assessment Study 2008 for Assam. The study (being conducted in 10 states), was spearheaded by RAAG (Right to Information Assessment and Accountability Group) in collaboration with National Campaign for People’s Right to Information (NCPRI). NEN conducted the study in partnership with three grassroots groups in the districts of Dibrugarh, Nalbari and Karbi Anglong of the state. Result of our field findings and the survey will be made public by RAAG by the end of this year.
