International Women’s Day: Be Bold for Change

And Sadou Asom Pragatisheel Nari Sanstha organised International Women’s Day on 8th March, 2017 at Dighalipukhuripaar, Guwahati Assam .This year’s theme is ‘BE BOLD FOR CHANGE’. There were around 100 participants’ women, men, youth and women’s organisations pledged to promote women’s rights, ensure state accountability to bring an end to violence on women and uphold women’s collective voices and public responsibility.
NEN with other collaborative women’s rights organisation submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister via the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (M) on issues related to acid attack, witch-hunting, unsafe public places for women, women’s helpline, 33% reservation in local bodies, gender budgets, etc. In 4 districts of Assam, NEN grassroots women leaders ensured state accountability beyond March 8th and submitted memorandums. In Darrang, memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner (DC), demanding establishment of a shelter home for women. The district does not have one yet (http://www.niyomiyabarta.org/09032017/page6.php). Memorandum was submitted to Officer in Charge (OC), Palashbari Police Station, Kamrup (R) towards police patrolling for safety of women in interior villages. In Golaghat district, memorandum was submitted to Block Development Officer (BDO) of Morongi Block demanding accessible road and drinking water supply. A memorandum was submitted to the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Sidli Block Chirang, requesting the office to allot a public space which can be meaningfully utilised to organise women’s meetings.
